Flying is the key activity within the ATC and approximately 10 Cadets from the Squadron get the opportunity to travel to RAF Benson to take part in Air Experience Flying (AEF). Slots are available for our Squadron to fly every couple of months and transport to and from RAF Benson is provided.
Once at RAF Benson you will fly in the RAF’s basic trainer aircraft, the Grob 115E ‘Tutor’, which is a modern, simplistic and highly manoeuvrable light aircraft.
Depending on how many times you have been on an AEF will dictate the skills that you will be taught when flying. Typically for a first flight the instructor will show you the basic controls and how to fly the aircraft but on further visits you will get to experience aerobatic manoeuvres and even have the opportunity to land the aircraft yourself… and the best bit is that it’s completely free!
